Music is therapy, a fact I really got to realize today. Since ages, I went after work to The Centre of Garifuna Culture to drum lessons that I usually attend twice a week and came back home full of enthusiasm!
First I went to say hi to an older garifuna man Herman, who showed me some new pictures he had drawn for stories he writes about the garifuna culture. He's a very kind and warm hearted man and it's always great to listen to his stories! This time I didn't have much time though, because my teacher Andres was already waiting for me upstairs on the roof of the centre in a small wooden house with the drums.
The lesson was really good today and for the first time I felt my hands playing the drum by themselves although my mind was at the same time somewhere else. Andres seemed quite pleased, too because after playing some basic stuff for months I got to learn some more complicated rhythms for change!
Now I only need to bu a drum and get together with the local hippies..
